And now it’s time for a training camp today with Neil Roberts and the Minnesota Vikings.
00;00;05;26 – 00;00;18;06
The Vikings have a new look defense this year as they’re going to a34. And some might say that doesn’t affect the D-backs as much, but some might argue otherwise. Joining us is our Vikings insider, Luke Bryan from Locked on Vikings. And Luke, let’s talk safety position. I really like Cam Bynum last year when he came in for Harrison Smith, when Smith was out, Woods is gone. So that made the pairing, I thought, fairly obvious. But first round, Lewis is a beast.
00;00;30;21 – 00;00;43;14
Yeah, it’s a really fun competition and you’re getting to see a lot of it because Harrison Smith, he’s older, he’s taken a lot of veteran rest days. So you get to see the young guys. And I think what this new defense is going to ask of their secondary coverage is a lot more free flowing. There’s a lot more deciding, there’s a lot more freelancing. Zimmer’s defense was a little more rigid, a little bit. Here’s your instruction. Go do it. And this done until defense is a lot more read and react, which is going to be tougher. There’s a lot more learning to that. And those young players might struggle early. So I think what you might see here is Cam Bynum is starting safety week one. And as the season wears on and Lewis soon gets a little more used to it, you’ll see him start to rotate in a little more, a little more, a little more until suddenly he’s the primary guy.
00;01;07;16 – 00;01;12;03
With only one. Has four three speed to that scene. Right. We’ll keep an eye on it. He will top corners when we come back.
00;02;10;11 – 00;02;16;23
We’re with Vikings Insider. Luke, Bryan and Luke. Let’s talk Corners for a second. They’ve got some depth at corner right now.
00;02;16;23 – 00;02;29;25
Far and away. The best corner on the team is still Patrick Peterson. It seems like Cam Dantzler is outplaying Booth right now by a little and Andrew Booth is going up against more of the twos. He’s getting a little bit more Smith-Marsette and Osborn and dancers got to keep up with Thielen and Jefferson. So I think dancing is going to win that job right off the bat. But at cornerback, it helps if you have a little rotating that you can do. So that’ll be really nice. And Caleb Evans has done a really nice job as a fourth round pick. We’ll see how much you can get him and he’ll still probably be more of a backup than a rotational guy.
00;02;43;15 – 00;02;47;10
All right, good stuff, Luke. Hey, that brings this report to a close. Until next time. I’m Neil Roberts.
