Murder Trial Ahead

MINOT – The murder trial of Kamauri Kennedy, 34, is scheduled to begin April 3 in North Central District Court. A status conference in the case was heard in front of Judge Gary Lee on Monday.

Kennedy’s trail to the Ward County courtroom is a lengthy one. On June 2, 2021, a body was found in a burning vehicle in Minot. The deceased was identified as Dominque Kelly, 33, Minot. Kennedy’s southeast Minot residence was also found burned in what was determined to be an intentional act.

Kennedy fled Minot following the incidents. The vehicle he was driving, a Chrysler, was found abandoned and burned in the Minneapolis area. Kennedy was residing in Minot in violation of federal probation related to a jewelry store robbery in Atlanta, Georgia in 2013. He was prohibited from leaving the state of Michigan but was known to be living in Minot since late 2020.

The murder suspect and parole violator was eventually captured and arrested in Macomb County, Michigan following a high-speed chase and crash. Kennedy has been held in the Ward County jail since March 25, 2023.

Kennedy’s trial for Murder-Intentional or Knowing-Adult victim and Conspiracy to Commit Murder-Intentional-Adult victim, is set to begin at 9 a.m. April 3. Kennedy is represented by Attorney William Skees of Bismarck.
