MINOT – A Minot man found guilty in January of Gross Sexual Imposition-Victim Under 15 years of age, was sentenced to more years than sought by the state in a courtroom here Wednesday.
Michael Prescott, 24, Minot, was sentenced to 20 years in the State Penitentiary, serve 17 to be followed by a mandatory five years of supervised probation, by Judge Stacy Louser. The prosecution asked for a sentence of 20 years, serve 15.
The mother of the 8-year-old victim made an emotional video appearance at the sentencing. She told the court her daughter was “definitely not the same girl she was” and that “no one needs to be prey to this predator.”
Before announcing her sentence, Louser told Prescott that, “The family and victim has certainly been harmed. It’s impossible to measure. This particular victim was targeted by you. You violated trust. That’s about as serious as it can get.”
