Individual Day at Clay Target Nationals

MASON, MICHIGAN -- What a day it was for individual qualifying at the USA Clay Target High School Finals. South Prairie High School shooters made it a day to remember.

Fresh off a 7th place team performance in Friday squad qualifying for Sunday's national championship, team members had a chance to display their shooting skills Saturday against the best high school marksmen in the United States.

The competition was keen. Nineteen males shooters posted perfects scores in a field of 1,459. Three South Prairie gunners -- David and Samual Abel and Carson Anderson posted 99s while teammates Wyatt Vovilla and Carter Korslien shots 98s, and Conner Johnson and Gage Olson posted 97s. All advance to Sunday's "Top Gun" competition.

In the female competition a pair of perfect scores were posted out of 259 shoots. Again, South Prairie trapshooters exceled on the national stage. Logan Hanneman scored 98/100, 6th best in the U.S., and Miranda Novodvorsky 97/100 for 16th. Hanneman and Novodvorsky move on to Sunday's individual title hunt.

Other top finishes included Brenden Kirk of Williston with a 99/100 and Gretchen Deaver of Berthold 96/100. Both scores qualify for Sunday's individual title hunt.
