Defendant enters not guilty plea

MINOT – A man charged with the shooting murder of another at a Minot hotel earlier this year has entered a not guilty plea in North-Central District Court.

Darrion Jackson, 33, Minot, is facing AA felony murder charge in the death of Timothy Smith, 38, Minot, shortly before midnight on January 30, 2023. That's when Minot Police responded to a call of a shooting incident at a northwest Minot hotel. Smith was found in a second floor hallway, unresponsive, and with an apparent bullet wound to the head.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with the court, during the on-scene investigation Jackson called Central Dispatch and stated he was responsible for the shooting, a statement he later repeated to an investigator.

After waiving his preliminary hearing and/or arraignment set for Thursday, the court scheduled a pre-trial conference for May 17, 8:30 a.m. in front of Judge Stacy Louser.
