Both Drivers Charged in LaMoure County Injury Crash

North Dakota Highway Patrol 

What: Two vehicle Injury Crash  

Where: Highway 13 mile marker 276 & 80th Ave SE, approximately 1.5 miles west of Edgeley on Highway 13.  

When: April 15th, 2023 at 4:48PM  

Road Conditions: Dry Asphalt  

Weather Conditions: Overcast  

Crash Involvement: Pickup vs. Minivan  

Type of Crash: Right Angle  

Agencies Involved: ND Highway Patrol, LaMoure County Sheriff’s Office, Edgeley Fire Department, and Edgeley Ambulance  

Vehicle No. 1: 2020 Ram 2500 Pickup  

Driver No. 1: Joshua Gackle-48, of Kulm, ND  

Restraints: No seatbelt  

Injury: None  

Charges: Driving under the Influence  

Vehicle No. 2: 2004 Toyota Sienna  

Driver No. 2: James Steele-77, of Edgeley, ND  

Restraints: No seatbelt  

Injury: Serious non-life-threatening injuries  

Charges: Turned left in front of approaching traffic  

NARRATIVE: The Ram 2500 was eastbound on Highway 13 approaching 80th Ave SE. The 2004 Toyota was westbound on Highway 13 and began to turn south onto 80th Ave when it was struck by the Ram 2500. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lanes and shoulder of Highway 13. Both drivers were unrestrained.  

James Steele was transported to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center from the scene and treated for his serious but non-life-threatening injuries. James has since been released from the hospital. Joshua Gackle was arrested for DUI.  

The crash remains under investigation by the ND Highway Patrol.
