MINOT – Ten or more years in the same job can reap rewards.
Jerry Hammer, a Ward County Highway Department employee, received an award at Tuesday’s county commissioner meeting, an award for sticking to his job for 10 years.
“I’m happy to present this 10-year award to Jerry,” said Dana Larsen, highway engineer.
Larsen said Hammer had originally worked for the City of Minot, and after retiring there, began his work with the county.
“He came to us 10 years ago with a ton of experience,” said Larsen. “He came to the county and said I just want to work, I don’t want to be in charge of a ton of people. And I said ok we’ll see.”
Hammer is a blade operator for the highway department, after being a foreman for the city.
“He does a really great job,” Larsen concluded. “Even though he’s not a foreman, he does provide a lot of leadership, and leadership doesn’t always have to come from the top. I really appreciate the leadership you do bring, the quiet leadership, and all the work. You’ve been through some tough winters with us as well.”
