MINOT – Paint isn’t just for paper. Clogs can make for a nice item to display crafty designs on.
Deb Wilson, Garrison, has been rosemaling for almost 25 years, and has been doing it on clogs as a volunteer for the Norsk Hostfest for around 12.
“We have a few samples that have been painted on different colored boards,” said Wilson. “It’s up to the person when they buy the shoe what kind of design they want on them.”
Wilson paints the clogs free hand right at the Hostfest, with the money from the clogs going to fund the event.
“I like to paint,” said Wilson, “I don’t care what size brush it is, if it’s a three-inch brush, or a brush with three bristles, it doesn’t matter to me. I painted oil on canvas for about 20 years before doing this.”
Wilson said it’s best if the design is placed on a part of the shoe that won’t rub off.
“You just try to pick a spot where you can put the design where it will be the least amount of rubbing,” said Wilson.
Wilson said the clogs this year are around $130.
