MINOT — Two very visible additions are underway at Dakota Square Mall. One is nearing completion while the other is in its early stages.

The Target store at the northwest corner of Dakota Square has begun a major makeover and expansion. Presently dirt work is being done on two sides of Target, the west and north.

A Target spokesperson told The Dakotan that the expansion will allow Target to expand its grocery line, add a Starbucks and liquor store, and a more customer friendly drive-up/pick up area.

The store will not become a Super Target, known for having a much larger footprint, but rather will enlarge the current store to be more in line with improved Target stores throughout the country. The project includes a complete remodel of the existing store.

In all, completion of the expansion and remodeling is expected to take 1 1/2 to 2 years.

Scheels has scheduled a July 9 opening for their new and expanded store location in Dakota Square. Presently Scheels is divided into two locations. The new store will include all of Scheels’ offering in a single store.

The new location will be 100,000 square feet. That compares to 58,000 square feet occupied by both stores today, the smaller of which is devoted to hunting and fishing.

Customers interested in taking a tour of the new facility before it opens to the public may do so by registering for informational tours on the Scheels website.
