MINOT — Several people, including the mayor, arrived at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning to help Ed Zilli, a veteran of both D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge, celebrate his 99th birthday.

Mayor Shaun Sipma presented a City of Minot coin to Zilli to commemorate the day.

Local media, including The Dakotan, had ran a story asking people to send the WWII veteran birthday cards. More than 100 cards, according to Zilli’s daughter Margie, have arrived, and she says he will take his time opening each and every one of them.

The Parker Senior Center, where Zilli lives, provided a cake for the celebration.
