MINOT — The Minot City Council on Monday evening officially approved the appointment of Michael Frye as the city’s next Chief of Police. Frye, a veteran of the Minneapolis Police Department and Bismarck State College, was selected following a nationwide search and a competitive interview process. He was approved with a vote of 6-0 with resounding support from the Council.
City Manager Harold Stewart recommended Frye for the position after gathering feedback from a public town hall, internal staff sessions, and two interview panels. To strengthen departmental leadership, Stewart also proposed promoting current interim Chief Dale Plessas to a newly created Deputy Chief position.
Frye’s appointment begins July 14, with a starting salary of $146,178. Upon successful completion of a one-year probationary period, his salary will be eligible to increase to $153,578.
Frye replaces former Chief John Klug, who resigned earlier this year.
