MINOT – Minot State men’s hockey team captain Davis Sheldon led the way as the Beavers captured their third ACHA National Championship in March, while Beaver softball pitcher Reegan Floyd led the way in her own respect, throwing her first collegiate no-hitter for Minot State.
Each turned in memorable performances in March and each were honored as Sheldon has been named the Pinnacle Employee Benefits Minot State Male Athlete of the Month and Floyd has been named the Pinnacle Employee Benefits Minot State Female Athlete of the Month.
Sheldon enjoyed a big week in Marlborough, Massachusetts as the senior led the Beavers to four straight wins and the ACHA Division I National Championship. The title was the 3rd for the Minot State men’s hockey program, and the second for Sheldon who was a freshman on the Beavers’ 2018-19 ACHA National Championship team.
The Beavers team captain was named the National Tournament MVP for his efforts on the ice for Minot State as he was second on the team in total points with five in four games, scoring two goals and adding in three assists at nationals.
As for Floyd, she enjoyed an equally memorable March as she had a career-high 13 strikeouts in an 8-0, 5-inning win over Regina in softball, throwing her first collegiate no-hitter. Floyd faced just two batters over the minimum in the win as two Cougars reached base in the contest, each on walks.
Just part of a stellar month for Floyd who pitched 9 2/3 innings in three games for Minot State, compiling a 1-0 record with 18 total strikeouts and allowing just 2 runs on six hits for the month.
