SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Khari Broadway, Ben Bohl, and Jalen Cook combined to score 55 of Minot State's 73 total points as the Beavers knocked off the Augustana Vikings 73-65 on the road Saturday in NSIC action.
Broadway led the Beavers (9-7 overall, 6-6 NSIC) with 20 points, six assists, and two steals. Bohl tacked on 19 points and Cook chipped in as well with 16 points off of the bench.
The Minot State offense was very productive from three-point land, making 11 threes on 24 attempts. Bohl was the most prolific shooter for the Beavers, draining four treys in the contest.
The Minot State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 14 Augustana turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Broadway's two steals led the way individually for the Beavers.
Coach's Comments
"Road sweeps are extremely tough in this league," said Minot State coach Matt Murken, whose team beat Wayne State 80-79 on the road Friday night. "We played with great energy, toughness, and were at our best when the moments were the biggest this weekend. We’ve got a ton of things to correct, learn from and improve but our competitiveness and effort is getting us some wins while we continue to grow."
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 36-29 advantage, Minot State went on a 5-0 run with 2:13 left in the first half to increase its lead to 41-29. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 41-31 advantage. Minot State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 41 points.
Minot State kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 49-33 with 17:43 to go in the contest. The Vikings narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still cru. ised the rest of the way for the 73-65 win. Minot State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting five shots from deep to score 15 of its 32 points.
