The Minot Fire Department responded Thursday night to 700 5th St. NE for smoke coming into the home from behind a rock veneer wall that surrounded a fireplace. Firefighters arriving on scene discovered flames coming from the flue pipe and from the siding and exterior wall around the fireplace, which protruded from the side of the house. Crews extinguished the flames and cut into the wall to make sure the fire was completely out. The home was ventilated to ensure all smoke and carbon monoxide were expelled. The occupants of the home were checked by an ambulance crew for airway irritation caused by smoke. No firefighters were injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
