MINOT – A new taxi service for Minot was approved by the City Council during a regular session this past Monday.
Councilman Scott Burlingame said he’d like to “welcome the company” to Minot following council action to allow Bee Line Service of Williston to conduct safety inspections of three taxis owned by TransportME, LLC to permit their operation in Minot. The city has been without a taxi service for several months.
The council also discussed at length a Wayfinding Project that has proven more costly than anticipated. Two separate bids have come in considerably above the previously budgeted $232,000 for the project.
The Wayfinding Project was primarily initiated to improve signage throughout the city to direct motorists to places of interest and shopping districts. However, after submitting the prohibitively expensive bids, the council requested a revised priority list be compiled.
Atop the priority list was a pair of decorative arches to introduce people to downtown Minot and improvements to City of Minot monuments at various access points to the city. It was expected those two projects would cost most or all the budgeted amount.
Councilman Mark Jantzer noted that arches and monuments do not direct anyone to a destination and the cost was unknown. He requested that an estimate be acquired before approving any priority list for the Wayfinding Project. The council agreed to wait until the next regularly scheduled meeting before resuming discussion on the matter.
