Accused Faces Life in Prison

The first full day of testimony in the trial of Nathaniel Sanchez, 37, Makoti, charged with Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, included former family members on the witness stand. The charge against Sanchez is a AA felony punishable by life in prison.

The State alleges that Sanchez began sexually abusing his stepdaughter when she was as young as seven years old and continued to do so for approximately four years.

The alleged victim, on her 13th birthday, took the witness stand as did her mother and grandmother, in North-Central District Court Tuesday. The Jane Doe juvenile told the court that she finally began talking about the alleged abuse because she was “wanting to get help.”

Jane Doe juvenile confided in her grandmother who informed the mother. When questioned by the State as to why Jane Doe juvenile approached her, the grandmother replied that Jane Doe juvenile “Didn’t know how to tell her mother what Nate had done to her and she was afraid she’d have to move somewhere else.”

Jane Doe testified that she divorced Sanchez in September 2022 following several months of separation. The State says abuse of Jane Doe juvenile occurred at locations in Makoti and New Town.

The trial is scheduled to run through Friday.
