MINOT – While many jobs in a City keep it running, some jobs keep it exciting.

Justin Anderson is the executive director of the Minot Area Council of the Arts.

“I run the organization with myself and one other staff person,” said Anderson. “We both take on a lot. The primary purposes of the organization are to promote the arts activities in the Minot area and to advocate for the arts in the Minot area.”

MACA also puts on events such as the one on Main Street every Thursday and the one in Oak Park every Sunday during the summer months.

“We have monthly programs at the Carnegie Center, when we’re not in our summer mode,” said Anderson.

Though MACA is busy all year round, it is especially busy in the summertime.

“On top of all that, we manage the Carnegie Center as a public program,” said Anderson.

MACA took charge of the 1911 Carnegie building in 2021, though the City still owns it.

“When it opened it was the Minot Public Library,” said Anderson.

The Council recently approved about $60,000 for the Carnegie Center to be improved.

MACA will always take more volunteers for its events while currently having only two staff members.

“It’s mostly two people running around like our pants are on fire,” Anderson said with a chuckle.

Anderson said he enjoys reading, acting, directing, and singing when he has free time. He acts and directs with the Mouse River Players and sings in the Heritage Singers choir.
