MINOT – As the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project has been taken in phases, the next phase is planned to go through the Roosevelt Park Zoo and could have some nice aesthetics that fit with the area.
Dan Jonasson, Public Works director, told the Minot City Council earlier this week about the MI6 and MI7 sections of the flood protection wall and its proposed aesthetics. This section of the wall will run near the Roosevelt Park Zoo to Burdick Expressway East.
The zoo would be in charge of the animal aesthetics on the wall. Some of the diagrams show paintings of different zoo animals on the wall.
“In working with the park district, and they’ve been a great partner in this, they’re going to be enduring the major disruption with this portion,” said Jonasson. “The animals on there, we’re giving them a canvas, to add to it at a later time. Basically we look at the rolling rock feature on there and the background to try and make it blend in with all of their other features in the great zoo that we have here in Minot.”
“I’ve been quite satisfied with the aesthetics of the project and this could very easily be a monstrosity given lots of concrete and tall walls,” said Alderman Stephan Podrygula. “I think it’s important that we have public structures that look good.”
The building of the new section of the wall is scheduled to begin next year.
