BISMARCK – The North Dakota State House approved an appropriation bill that includes money for a Minot airport hangar and a military museum in Bismarck.

Senate Bill 2016 provides a total of approximately $386 million of federal and state money for the adjutant general’s budget. About $27 million of that amount is from state funds. Also included in the bill is one time funding of $60,000 for a Minot airport hangar for the civil air patrol.

SB2016 also requires the Bank of North Dakota to extend a line of credit of $20 million for a military museum planned to be built as an addition to the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck. Ten million dollars was appropriated for the museum last year. SB2016 includes $225,000 for flood mitigation grants. The bill adds nine new full-time employees, four in the adjutant general’s budget and five in emergency management.

In section 14, the bill requires legislative management to consider studying feasibility and desirability of adding to Cold War historical sites in North Dakota with a Cold War Trail Project.

“This is dealing with a number of places across the state where there’s a history of the Cold War historic sites,” said Rep. Mike Brandenburg, R-Dis. 28, Edgeley. “It’s a legislative study to look at what we can do in the future for those projects.”

The bill passed by a 87-3 vote. If both chambers agree on the amendments it will be sent to the governor for consideration.
