BISMARCK – People working in communications must have an understanding of a variety of topics, and one man from Bismarck works to communicate for a department that helps people with the often complicated topic of insurance.
Jacob Just is the director of communications for the North Dakota Insurance Department. His job is in the name; anything to do with communications for that department, including answering media questions and working on the department’s website, social media, and other digital platforms.
“Anything on the public relations side of things,” said Just. “Anything media related, anything communications related is what I handle, including presentations.”
Just also helps elected Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread with his schedule.
The job of the Insurance Department is also in the name; it checks any form of insurance in North Dakota and assists anyone who is having trouble with his or her insurance.
Just began his job in March of last year. Before that he worked in the radio business in Jamestown and Valley City. He also went to the University of Jamestown for communications and political science.
Just grew up in Morris, Minnesota. He has always had family in the LaMoure area.
“That’s sort of what drew me to Jamestown,” said Just.
For fun, Just likes to travel when the legislative session isn’t happening. Though he does work at the Capitol all year round, he said the legislative session time is the busiest time.
“You’ve got your typical duties but then also accommodating the activities of the sessions,” said Just. “It’s just a busier time.”
Just also likes to catch up on whatever TV shows he has time for.
“I like walking, exploring,” Just added.
