Ward County Sheriff’s Department

On April 20 th, 2023, late in the evening, the Ward County Sheriff’s Department responded to an attempted burglary at a Ward County firearms store. Deputies discovered a window to the firearms store was broken, a screen had been removed and an alarm was triggered, however there were bars preventing the suspect from completely entering the store. A suspect and suspect vehicle were visible in security camera video, but left prior to law enforcement’s arrival. Staff at the store reported a similar vehicle was at the store earlier in the day and had a video of the person that was driving it. The person was wearing a tactical vest and military fatigues.
Deputies investigating the attempted burglary identified the suspect as 18-year-old Michael Roanhorse. On the morning of April 21st, 2023, deputies heard radio traffic identifying Roanhorse was involved in a traffic incident with the City of Minot Police Department in city limits. When deputies arrived they observed that Roanhorse was dressed in military fatigues and had been wearing a tactical vest. Deputies also identified Roanhorse’s boot print was similar to that discovered at the scene of the attempted burglary. Roanhorse was not in possession of any firearms, but did have ammunition.

Roanhorse was arrested for attempted burglary (C Felony) and transported to the Ward County Detention Center where he is being held on a $5,000 cash or corporate surety bond.
