JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Beavers will head into the Christmas break with a good feeling.
The Minot State women once again turned in on in the second half of their game Saturday, pulling away to beat in-state foe Jamestown, 7-3 on the road.
The win makes Minot State 6-0 against the Jimmies and gives the fifth-ranked Beavers an 11-4-1 record as they head into the Christmas and New Year’s break, returning to the ice on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 6-7, to host Adrian (Mich.) at the Maysa Arena.
The Beavers head into the break happy after an early onslaught gave them a lead they never relinquished as Megan Norris scored with 9 minutes, 39 seconds gone off assists from Sydney Spicer and Denali Sigurdson, then Spicer scored back-to-back goals to give Minot State a 3-0 lead after the first period.
But like Friday in Minot, the Jimmies chipped away with a pair of goals by Chloe Gauthier, getting as close as 3-2 down in the opening five minutes of the second period.
Unfazed, the Beavers went back on the attack with Gillian Gervin netting the game-winner with 5:55 left in the second, then 1:16 later Jordan Kulbida added an insurance goal for a 5-2 lead.
Gauthier’s third of the game closed the gap a bit for the Jimmies early in the third, but Aspen Cooper and Olivia Opheim each scored in the third period, as well, as Minot State iced the win.
Hali Lawrence earned the win in goal, making 32 saves for the Beavers.
