MINOT – It was a nasty way to get the winter underway, one of the deepest November 10 snowfalls on record in many places in the state. Minot’s official dump was a record for the date at 7.3 inches. The previous mark was 4.2 inches in 2012.
The snowiest November in Minot’s history was 1985 when 25.9 inches was recorded. Thursday’s heavy snowfall was a big step towards that mark, but the Climate Prediction Center outlook through Nov. 24 doesn’t have any big snowfall events in the forecast.
While Minot’s 7-plus inches caused cancellations and inconveniences, it was the Bismarck area that bore the brunt of the storm with whopping 24 inches of snow reported in both Bismarck and Mandan.
Other reporting points included 15 inches at Beulah and Hazen, 12.5 inches at Devils Lake, 11 inches in Dickinson, 10.5 in Garrison, 10 in Harvey, and 9 inches at Williston and Grand Forks.
In contrast, in the northwest quadrant of the state, Crosby registered 3 inches of snow and Kenmare 4.
