MINOT — The Minot Fire Department received a $41,533.85 grant to purchase a breathing air compressor for Fire Station 5 being built on the Northwest side of town.

General Manager Brent Lohnes from Hess Corporation presented the fire department with the check Tuesday evening at the Minot City Council meeting.

“I’m hoping this goes a long way for Fire Station 5,” said Mayor Shaun Sipma.

Battalion Chief Brent Weber said, “This is not our first Hess grant that we’ve received… but nothing by far this large. So, I just appreciate the opportunity to put an application in and to be accepted.”

The compressors will be used for filling Self Contained Breathing Apparatus’s with air, so firefighters can safely respond to emergencies where air quality is poor.

The new fire station at 4th Ave and 27th St NW is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
