Dale Brown Court to be Unveiled at LSU

A legendary basketball coach who had his beginnings in Minot will soon have his name attached to one of the top basketball facilities in the nation.

The Board of Supervisors at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA, by a vote of 12-3, recently approved the naming of Dale Brown Court inside the university’s Pete Maravich Assembly Center. At Brown’s request, the unveiling of Dale Brown Court will be held January 4, 2022 when the LSU Tigers host the Kentucky Wildcats.

Brown graduated from St. Leo’s High School in Minot in 1953. He went on to become a multi-sport athlete at what is now Minot State University, earning letters in football, basketball, and track. Brown was inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1981.

Brown’s coaching career included three years at Columbus High School prior to becoming head basketball coach at Bishop Ryan High School in Minot from 1959-64. He was head coach at LSU from 1972-1997, turning around a losing program and leading LSU to NCAA final four appearances in 1981 and 1986.
