Shortly after 3 p.m. Monday the National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning for western and central North Dakota Tuesday and much of the state Wednesday. Northwest winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour with gusts to 50-60 mph are possible.
The NWS warns that damaging wind could blow down trees and power lines. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Some snow is possible with the greatest chances along the Canadian border.
The latest forecast calls for wind gusts of 58 mph at Williston, 56-58 mph in the Bowman and Elgin areas, 53 mph at New Town, and 46 mph at Minot. The high winds are building behind a cold front that could bring wind chills into the single digits.
The NWS will issue further updates as the system progresses.
