VELVA – A product developed by Dorothy Henke in her home kitchen more than 10 years ago is now part of a $1.2-billion acquisition by food giant Hershey. Another pretzel maker, Pretzels Inc., is included in the deal.
Dot’s Pretzel’s made a meteoric rise on the snack market, eventually growing from a small town to include manufacturing facilities in Kansas and Arizona. Several varieties of Dot’s Pretzels have proven popular with customers throughout a wide area of the United States.
According to Hershey, Dot’s accounted for 55% of the growth in the snacking industry pretzel category this past year.
