A bus carrying 38 players and coaches from the Dickinson State University football team was involved in a collision at about 9:35 a.m. Friday. The two-vehicle crash occurred on I-94 near Crystal Springs.

A 2006 Lincoln Navigator driving by Miguel Gascal, 64, Mesquite, NV, was eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle on an icy bridge, entered the median, and came back into the eastbound lane where it was struck by the bus. Both vehicles came to rest in the south ditch.

A passenger in Gascal’s vehicle, 62-year-old Amalia Vasquez, Michoacan, Mexico, sustained undisclosed injuries. No Dickinson players or coaches were injured. The NAIA 19th ranked Blue Hawks football team was enroute to Forest City, Iowa for a regular season-ending contest against Waldorf University.

According to the ND Highway Patrol, road conditions at the time were ice covered due to wind and blowing snow.
