The Dakotan: This is Outdoor Issues with Neil Roberts and North Dakota Game and Fish outreach biologist Greg Gullickson. Neil Roberts: Greg, we talked about your department being a small game in Fish Agency and our other report this week run us through some of those numbers. Greg Gullickson: I think we're actually staff wise, the second smallest game in Fish Agency in the United States which is surprising to me, given the plentiful outdoor opportunities that we have for both our residents and the amount of nonresidents that we attract to fish to hunt, to utilize some of our great outer resources. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has 164 full time members, 11 year-round temporary team members, and then those important summer seasonal workers that help with both our wildlife and fisheries folks. And that number is at 55. The mission of the game in Fish Department is simple to protect, conserve and enhance fish and wildlife populations. And their habitat for sustained public and consumptive and non consumptive uses. Neil Roberts: All right, good stuff, Greg. Neil Roberts: Talking the North Dakota State game and Fish Department and its makeup today on outdoor issues. And Greg, what does your department actually do, say day in and day out? Greg Gullickson: Well, we're separated into five different divisions fisheries, conservation, communications, administrative services, wildlife and enforcement. So the fisheries obviously provide a diverse, valued fishing opportunity for the public conservation communications works to inform and educate folks, and also works on developments to minimize impacts to the wildlife resource. Administrative Services provides policy planning, license sales. The Wildlife provides for the responsible management of the resource, as well as making sure that we have good habitats out there and enforcement. They work with community outreach, public safety and enforcing the laws and regulations in North Dakota. Neil Roberts: Good stuff, Greg. Thanks for all you guys do.
