Minot-Mark Jantzer, the City Council President and current acting mayor has confirmed his intentions to seek the position in this summers upcoming special election. He would be filling the remainder of former Mayor Tom Ross's term which expires in June of 2026. Jantzer has served as an Alderman since 2008.
Jantzer sat down with Jonathan Starr early this week to discuss the current state of the city, as well as the prospects of running for the open seat. When discussing the possibility of a run following the special elections confirmation he stated, "...I'm inclined to give the citizens that choice because it's probably what the council would have done had there not been a special election."
The earliest date a special election can be held is Sunday, July 20 which is the opening weekend of the North Dakota State Fair. While it's unlikely the election would coincide with the fair, no date has been officially set as of yet.
