RIVERDALE -- North Dakota’s largest body of water, Lake Sakakawea, was declared frozen-over on January 18 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
A very pleasant winter laden with several weeks of well above-average temperatures spurred by an El Nino influenced weather pattern, was responsible for the second latest freeze date in the history of the reservoir.
The late freeze matches 2012, The latest freeze ever recorded for Lake Sakakawea was January 24, 2001.
