MINOT – Travis McDermott, 41, Minot, has been found guilty of Manslaughter and Reckless Endangerment. A jury returned that verdict following two days of testimony in front of North-Central District Judge Todd Cresap.
A key moment in the trial was the showing of video, from two different cameras located inside the Original Bar and Nightclub on North Broadway. The State maintained the video was proof the crimes were committed and that the video contradicted McDermott’s version of events. The defense maintained the video showed McDermott acted in self-defense after an intimidating encounter with Greyson Sletto, 32, Willow City.
Sletto was shot twice, once in the chest and again in the lower back, by McDermott and was pronounced dead at 2:12 a.m. on May 14, 2023. The first bullet traveled through the victim’s body and was recovered on the second-floor balcony of the crowded bar. The shooting was preceded by McDermott and Sletto struggling briefly over a handgun displayed by McDermott in an apparent effort to intimidate Sletto.
Manslaughter-Adult Victim is a class B felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment. Reckless Endangerment-Extreme Indifference is a class C felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
Judge Cresap ordered a pre-sentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for May 6, 2024, at 1 p.m.
