Provider Faces Murder Charge

CARRINGTON – Patricia Wick, 48, Jamestown, is scheduled to go to trial on charges of Murder, Child Abuse, and Operating a Daycare Without a License.

The charges stem from a September 26, 2022, medical call at a day care at 438 2nd St. South. According to police, first responders arrived at the scene and took over CPR being performed on an infant. The 5-month-old child was taken via Life Flight to Sandford Medical Center in Fargo and pronounced dead.

A medical record provided to police stated, “the infant has clearly suffered traumatic head injury and subsequently had a cardiac arrest with likely anoxic brain injury.”

Further investigation of Wick revealed that approximately two weeks prior to the fatal incident another youth had suffered a broken arm while in her care. According to an affidavit filed with the court, Wick told the parents that the child had fallen off a swing set and was “faking his level of injury.”

The affidavit also states that Wick was operating a daycare without a license to do so. Ten days have been set aside for the jury trial which is scheduled to begin January 29, 2024.
