MINOT – They were recently named the best in a national competition, impressing judges and the audience with a tap and jazz routine practiced endlessly.
“At regionals we qualified for nationals at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin,” said Katie Ingerson, competitive director, Magic City Dance Company. “They took us to the showdown where they competed with other showdown contestants and they won the whole thing!”
“They worked really hard,” added Brittany Busch, recreational director. “It was fun to see the fight come out and the humbleness to be able to take the award and be proud of themselves, thankful for teachers, coaches, and moms, and everybody who got them there. Win or lose, it’s still a win because they work really hard, but the trophy is always a fun thing to bring home.”
The dancers all said traveling to competitions with family, friends, and teammates was a big part of the reason they enjoy dance. Ingerson added that instructor and coach Shilow Bennett deserved credit for working with the dancers on the winning routine.
“It’s a big deal, a very big deal,” said Ingerson. “It takes a lot of commitment and a lot of hours. Some of these girls are here four, five, six days a week. There is a lot of potential with this group.”
