MINOT – It won’t be long before workers complete a new retaining wall along the east and south sides of the Minot Police department.
The old rock wall west of the City Auditorium, and south side of old City Hall, has given way to a much more modern structure comprised of concrete panels. The old rock wall had been crumbling in recent years and was deemed unstable.
The new wall is vertical, a change from the sloping rock wall, and has allowed for an enlarged parking area for the Minot Police department. An aging water main that runs underneath a portion of the PD parking lot still must be installed as part of the renovation project.
“The week of the 26th we plan on finishing the watermain, and then we’ll pave the parking lot,” said Lance Meyer, city engineer. “After that it’s what I would call finishing touches. We’ll stain the concrete walls, add stairs from the lot up to the auditorium, and do parking lot striping. We’re coming up on the end of the project in about a month.”
Crews began work on replacing the old rock retaining wall in early 2022. Mid-July is the estimated completion date.
