MINOT – A man involved in a four-car collision near University Avenue and North Broadway shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday made an initial court appearance before North-Central District Judge Douglas Mattson Monday afternoon.
Chas Merren, 35, Minot, is charged with Fleeing a peace officer, vehicle, Risk of death or serious bodily injury; DUI, Refusal, 4th or subsequent offense in 15 years, both C felonies; and Duty in accident involving death or injury, personal injury, a misdemeanor A.
According to an affidavit filed with the court, Merren was traveling at high speed when he became involved in a four-vehicle collision and fled the scene on foot. He was apprehended about a block away and taken to Trinity Hospital for possible injuries. While there he scuffled with Minot Police and a Ward County Sheriff’s Department deputy.
Minot Police had initiated a pursuit on Merren’s vehicle after it was reported to be traveling at approximately 90 miles per hour on North Broadway. The pursuit was terminated shortly thereafter as Merren continued to drive through the city.
