Study for Minot-Velva Stretch Included in Bill

BISMARCK – A bill containing money for a proposed highway improvement project, the widening of U.S. Highway 52 from Minot to Velva, awaits signature approval from Governor Doug Burgum.

“We got $5 million for an environmental study. We got it with good cooperation with everybody,” said Duane Brekke, Minot.

Brekke has been active in advocating for improvements to be made on the stretch of U.S. Highway 52 that has seen several severe and fatal accidents in recent years. Initial plans call for making the Minot-Velva stretch into a Super Two-Lane, which is a widening every few miles to add specific passing zones to provide for greater safety and more efficient traffic flow.

“I’m very proud of the work that we did and accomplished,” said Brekke. “Senator Karen Kresbach set up a meeting with the governor for us and I give credit where credit is due.”

Included in Department of Transportation Bill, HB1012:

SECTION 2. ONE-TIME FUNDING - EFFECT ON BASE BUDGET - REPORT TO SIXTY-NINTH LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY.

United States highway 52 environmental study $5,000,000
