February 25, 2023, at approximately 7:40 am, the Ward County Sheriff’s Department began assisting the Mclean County Sheriff’s Department in the pursuit of a fleeing motor vehicle that fled from Mclean County in to Ward County on US Highway 83.
During the pursuit, a Ward County Deputy was attempting to deploy a tire deflation device in the 5400 block of south US Highway 83 when the fleeing vehicle purposely turned directly towards the Deputy in an attempt to run him over. The Deputy was able to jump out of the way and fired two rounds from his handgun at the vehicle.
The fleeing motor vehicle continued through the city of Minot where it struck at least two Mclean County Sheriff’s Department vehicles and one Ward County Sheriff’s Department vehicle. The pursuit came to an end at the intersection of 3rd Street Southeast and 1st Avenue Southeast, where a Mclean County vehicle and the fleeing motor vehicle became disabled and an additional firearm was discharged by a Mclean County Deputy.
The investigation is currently on-going and involves multiple jurisdictions.
