NARRATIVE: Donavan Wick was traveling westbound from a rural residence to Steele.
Steve Maier was traveling westbound from Wishek to Mandan. Maier was pulling a horse
trailer loaded with ten cows. Both vehicles were traveling in the right lane when Wick’s vehicle
struck the rear of the horse trailer. The impact pushed the Chevy Silverado and horse trailer
into the median where they rolled over.
Steve Maier was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Steve Maier was
transported from the scene by the Kidder County Ambulance and later pronounced dead from
injuries sustained in the crash. Donavan Wick was not injured in the crash. Four of the ten
cows sustained fatal injuries in the crash. This crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
