MINOT — Souris Valley Sabre Dogs continued their hot start to the season with a 5-2 over the Pierre Trappers on Tuesday. The Sabre Dogs offense had another fast start as they put together a 3-run first inning with a double from Hunter Delanoy and a single from Cody Muncy.
Pierre’s starting pitcher Kaleb Hay would settle into a groove over the next few innings retireing 9 of the next 10 Sabre Dogs batters. Souris Valley broke up the grove with a single by Hunter Delanoy and a double by Ben Newbert in the 5th with both guys scoring later in the inning.
Souris Valley got another quality start from Reed Butz on the bump as he tossed 6 innings allowing a run on 5 hits and a walk.
“We just have to stick to the game plan, trust what we're going to throw and just realize that if one pitch doesn’t work, the next 3 or 4 might. Just keep attacking and trusting what we got,” said Butz on how the pitching staff can build on their success.
Souris Valley wraps up the series with Pierre on Wednesday before a quick 1 game road trip to Pierre on Thursday and returning home to Corbett for a weekend series with the Red River Pilots on Friday.
