RIVERDALE — With the end of the school year approaching comes tour season for students as educators seek alternatives to classroom study. To help, the Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery annually offers tours of their facility.

Students not only break out from their regular school day routine, but they step into the real world where the benefits of learning abound. At the hatchery they get a first-hand opportunity to see applications of science and biology, perhaps begin to think about a career as a fisheries biologist or related field.

During tours students get to watch biologists handle fish and see what they do on an everyday basis. They learn the importance of what happens in the hatchery setting, from working with endangered species to promoting stocking programs for the benefit of the public throughout the state.

Any educator wishing to have their class visit the fish hatchery can make arrangements to do so by calling 701-654-7451.
