MINOT — The man who led police on a pursuit Friday evening made his initial court appearances Monday for multiple charges related to the pursuit.
Minot Police say at approximately 6:53 p.m. an off-duty law enforcement officer witnessed a woman being dragged by a vehicle in SW Minot.
A Minot Patrol Sergeant found the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop near Western Ave and South Broadway.
The driver, later identified as Darrell Schiff, 34, Minot, failed to stop for several blocks.
At 8th Street and West Central Avenue, Schiff stopped, and then intentionally backed into the patrol car.
Schiff fled and the pursuit ensued through NW Minot. The vehicle eventually came to a stop at 24th Street NW and 4th Avenue after officers used a tire deflating device.
Law enforcement arrested Schiff and took him into custody.
The 34-year-old woman of Minot inside the car was transported to Trinity Hospital by ambulance for her injuries. Schiff was also transported to Trinity Hospital where he received minor treatment.
After being released, Schiff was taken to the Ward County Jail.
Schiff is facing 10 separate charges, which include Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment with Extreme Indifference, Driving Under Suspension, Fleeing from a Peace Officer, Preventing Arrest, DUI, and Felonious Restraint.
Schiff made an initial appearance in Minot Municipal Court Monday morning on two charges of Criminal Mischief and a charge of Driving Under the Influence, all misdemeanors and pled to guilty to all three.
Schiff made another appearance in the afternoon before Judge Richard Hagar at the Ward County Courthouse for four felony charges: Felonious Restraint, Reckless Endangerment with Extreme Indifference, Fleeing a Peace Officer, and Preventing Arrest, and 3 misdemeanors: Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment, and Actual Physical Control of a substance.
Schiff applied for a court appointed attorney. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 12, and his pretrial conference is set for July 20.
