MINOT — The Minot City Council approved an emergency declaration following the snowstorm this past week.
The vote was unanimous.
This is just one of the steps in the process to qualify for federal reimbursement. However, it does free up the city's emergency funds to help pay down some of the costs involved with the snowstorm.
Dan Jonasson, public works director, said the approximate cost per day was $40,000, which included seven contractors and a total of 20 pieces of equipment.
Harold Stewart, city manager, said there were 32 employees working 12 hour shifts out on the roads.
“We had contractors and local farmers that all came in and were part of the solution,” said Stewart. “Our airport staff, trying to get the airport open as soon as possible. The teamwork between our police, our fire [department], and our public works crews. I’d like to [also] thank the citizens of Minot. We have many examples of good neighbors getting out and helping clear out driveways.”
“A big thank you to all of them,” Jonasson expressed. “Our intention now is to continue widening all the roadways that are narrow.”
