HILLSBORO — The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a woman was injured early Sunday morning after she took off during a traffic stop and crashed into two houses and two trees.
According to the NDHP, a Traill County Sheriff’s Deputy was engaged in a traffic stop with a male driver and a female passenger north of Hillsboro at 3 a.m. near the American Crystal Sugar beet plant on State Highway 200.
The deputy began a DUI investigation with the man outside of the vehicle. While that was happening, the woman moved herself into the driver's seat and took off in the car.
The deputy pursued the woman on State Highway 200 toward Hillsboro.
She lost control of the vehicle when entering Hillsboro, first striking a corner of a house, then a tree, then another tree, and lastly another house.
The car caught on fire, and the deputy removed her from the vehicle.
The property owner extinguished the fire.
She was first transported to Sanford Health Hillsboro Clinic to be treated for severe injuries and later flown to Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
She was identified as Aneesa Villarreal-Brusegaard, 22, of Grand Forks and faces DUI charges. The crash remains under investigation.
