MAPLETON — The North Dakota Highway Patrol is asking for help finding the person involved in a high-speed pursuit on Interstate-94 Friday morning around 9 a.m. near Mapleton.
According to the NDHP, it started when a trooper attempted to stop a Pontiac Grand Prix for failing to maintain its lane. The vehicle fled from the trooper reaching speeds over 100 mph.
During the pursuit the Pontiac collided with a Honda Odyssey, causing minor property damage but no injuries. The Pontiac continued fleeing. NDHP troopers attempted to use spike strips near the Sheyenne exit to stop the pursuit, but it was not effective. The fleeing Pontiac exited traveling southbound on the Veterans Blvd exit.
The NDHP discontinued the pursuit when the Pontiac entered the city of Fargo, since continuing the pursuit would have created a hazard to the public. They later found the Pontiac abandoned near a hotel in Fargo but did not find the suspect.
This incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this pursuit is asked to contact the NDHP at 701-328-2447.
