MINOT — Minot Public Schools (MPS) shared the results from an online survey regarding suggestions for school names, colors, and mascots for the new high school at Tuesday’s meeting.
“We had almost 1,500 people complete the online survey. Great excitement with all of it,” said MPS Superintendent Mark Vollmer.
The dominant theme for a new name centered around the word “North.” Several top examples were Minot North High School, North Hill High School, North Minot High School, Great Northern High School, and North Side High School.
As for suggested school colors, white and blue, yellow and blue, black and red, white and black, white and green, and black and blue were most liked. The school names and suggested colors did not have vote totals but were ranked from highest to lowest vote count.
Vollmer noted, “When we look at colors, we really need to be involving our athletic director on this, because we don’t want to be the same color as multiple schools in the Western Dakota Conference.”
With vote counts listed for this category, several top picks for mascot themes were Eagles (55), B-52’s (31), Falcons (27), Bombers (24), Jets (24), Vikings (20), Bulldogs (19), and Wizards (19).
The school board will not be making final decisions for these categories at this time. The next meeting is scheduled for April 7 at 4:00 p.m. in the Central Campus auditorium.
