Coffee Cottage Café under new ownership

RUGBY—There has always been good reason for people to frequent the Coffee Cottage Café -- tasty baked goods, great food, cozy atmosphere, fresh brewed coffee, wonderful friends. Now, under new ownership, those expectations will continue.

Crystal Wangler took possession of the building housing the quaint café in late December. She purchased the business from the previous long-time owner and, after making some changes to the interior, Wangler opened the doors on January 3.

“Here I am, and I’ve got big shoes to fill,” said Wangler. “Our big thing is homemade. I have a baker that is amazing. She does everything from scratch. She worked here before. I’m glad she stayed.”

Homemade pies and pastries grace a glass display case inside the Coffee Cottage Café, befitting the décor.

“This place definitely has the look of a cottage and I want to keep it a quaint place." Crystal Wangler, owner of Coffee Cottage Café

“This place definitely has the look of a cottage and I want to keep it a quaint place,” said Wangler. “We have a daily special and two soups every day all homemade.”

Currently the Coffee Cottage is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wangler says she hopes to find enough staff to eventually extend hours to 8 p.m., which will allow for the addition of a dinner menu.

As might be expected, and as the name implies, the Coffee Cottage is a chosen place for many looking for a good cup of coffee to start their day.

“I have my normal coffee guys come in every day. They are the reason I decided to open at 6 a.m. instead of 7 or 8,” said Wangler. “They have coffee and stay for breakfast.”

The Coffee Cottage also has a meeting room that offers privacy for small groups.

“I tried to make it a little homier. The meeting area is kind of closed off for people,” said Wangler.

The Coffee Cottage is located at 106 Highway 2 Southwest.
