REYNOLDS—The North Dakota Highway Patrol says traffic is being rerouted on I-29 near Reynolds while crews put out a hazardous materials fire.

According to the NDHP, a semi driver noticed smoke coming from the trailer he was pulling around 8:30 Wednesday morning. He stopped the vehicle and unhooked the trailer, which was on fire. The load contained a hazardous, corrosive liquid, that was being hauled to Canada.

The driver, 49, and co-driver, 32, were not harmed. There are no pending charges.

The Traill County Sheriff’s Department, NDHP, Reynolds Fire and Rescue, Buxton Fire Department, Grand Forks Fire Department, and NDDOT are on the scene.

Traffic is being routed to a detour at Exit 118 near Buxton and then to County Road 81 north to Reynolds before getting back onto I-29. The detour will remain in place until the fire is completely out and the area is cleaned up.
