Recreational marijuana will still not be legalized in North Dakota after voters rejected Measure 5 in Tuesday's statewide voting. As of early Wednesday morning, just under 20,000 stopped the measure from passing.
The North Dakota Monitor reached out to Steve Bakken, chair of the measure's sponsoring committee. He stated, "It’s not going to be as conservative as the fabric of North Dakota is and I don’t wanna see that."
This measure came closer to passing than previous attempts. In 2018 59% of voters in opposed and in 2022 55% were opposed.
