Jared Young Makes Impact
MINOT – As a true freshman on the diamond, Jared Young’s star-power shone through for the Beavers.
The infielder from Prince George, British Columbia led Minot State offensively hitting .398 while adding five home runs, 18 doubles, two triples, and 35 RBIs, and earned Second Team All-NSIC and ABCA/Rawlings Central All-Region honors in the spring of 2015.
Those incredible talents on the diamond didn’t go unnoticed and after making his brief Major League Baseball debut late last season, Young now finds himself in a regular starting role with the Chicago Cubs as he played in his third straight game on Friday after being called up from the Triple A Iowa Cubs on Tuesday.
In those three games, the former Minot State star has hit safely in each game with a .444 average (4-for-9), a home run and 4 RBIs. That home run came in Young’s first major league at-bat this season on Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Young made his brief MLB debut last season, playing in six games with the Cubs from Sept. 16-24, going 5-for-19 with 2 doubles.
Prior to his promotion this summer, Young was hitting .326 with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs for the Iowa Cubs in 52 games.
Playing just his freshman season with the Beavers, Young went on to finish his collegiate career at NCAA Division I Old Dominion (Va.) where he was drafted in 2017 by the Cubs in the 15th round.
